Three engagements, each shaped for a different moment in your business
Whether you need to understand where your business stands, build a plan for the next chapter, or have an experienced sounding board alongside you as you grow — there's a structured engagement for each of these needs.
Back to HomeA methodology built around the owner's understanding, not the consultant's
Consulting that produces reports the client doesn't act on hasn't helped anyone. Our engagements are structured to keep the owner's understanding at the centre — drawing on your knowledge of the business, challenging assumptions where that's useful, and building conclusions you're prepared to work with.
Each engagement begins with careful listening. Before we suggest anything, we want to understand how the business actually operates, what the owner believes is working, and where they sense friction or uncertainty. That diagnostic foundation shapes everything that follows.
We also believe that the right level of support varies through a business's lifecycle. A business at an early growth stage needs different things from a business that has hit a ceiling. Our three engagement types reflect these different moments — and can be combined over time as the relationship develops.
Listen and assess
Understand the business as it actually is — not as described in documents.
Frame and challenge
Bring structure to the thinking and question assumptions constructively.
Build and own
Develop outputs the client genuinely owns and is ready to act on.
Support through execution
Stay available during the periods when implementation is hardest.
SME Health Assessment
A structured review of the business across its core operating dimensions — commercial performance, team structure, financial health, and market positioning. The process involves focused conversations with the business owner and key staff, supported by a review of available business data. The output is a clear written assessment in plain language.
This engagement is a thoughtful starting point for SMEs considering their next stage — whether or not they choose to proceed to a planning engagement afterwards.
- Commercial performance review
- Team structure and capability assessment
- Financial health indicators review
- Market positioning analysis
- Written assessment report in plain language
Growth Planning Engagement
Drawing on the findings of an assessment — or the client's own existing understanding — this engagement focuses on building a practical, owner-led growth plan. We facilitate structured planning sessions with the business owner and relevant managers, working through market opportunity, capability gaps, resource requirements, and sequencing.
The resulting plan is realistic and owned by the client. The consultant's role is to provide structure, challenge assumptions thoughtfully, and draw on relevant experience to improve the quality of thinking.
- Market opportunity mapping
- Capability gap identification
- Resource and investment planning
- Growth initiative sequencing
- Client-owned growth plan document
Operational Growth Partnership
A retained advisory arrangement providing SME owners with ongoing access to experienced consulting support. Monthly strategy sessions, interim support between meetings, and periodic business reviews form the core of the engagement. The approach is tailored to the rhythm of each client's business — more intensive during key decision periods, steadier during execution phases.
Designed for owners who benefit from a knowledgeable external perspective alongside their own team, particularly through periods of significant change, complexity, or sustained growth ambition.
- Monthly strategy and review sessions
- Ad-hoc support and interim consultation
- Quarterly business performance reviews
- Flexible intensity through business cycles
- Priority access during critical decision windows
